Impressions of beauty
change with time - as do our faces as we age. With RESTYLANE, you can
have a natural beauty lift with the body's own material. RESTYLANE is a
crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural
substance, called hyaluronic acid. The gel is injected into the skin in
tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and
produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to your
skin.
RESTYLANE is a
crystal-clear, biodegradable NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic
Acid) gel, which is injected into the dermis in tiny amounts with a very
fine needle. The result is instantaneous, producing a long-lasting,
natural enhancement, gentle and safe to the skin.
RESTYLANE is a Swedish
innovation dedicated to natural beauty. After decades of extensive
research, Dr Bengt Ågerup and the company Q-Med in Uppsala, Sweden,
succeeded in developing a method to stabilize non-animal, hyaluronic
acid and forming a gel called NASHA. The first application of the NASHA
gel, RESTYLANE, was introduced in 1996.
Since it was launched
in 1996, RESTYLANE has undergone extensive histological and clinical
studies with an increasing body of evidence relating to its ease of use,
tolerability and effectiveness. Today, more than 1,500,000 treatments
have been successfully carried out worldwide.

Bio-Alkemid
While a facelift used to be the only means of giving the face a more
youthful appearance and ironing out wrinkles, one can now opt for far
less major techniques such as the use of fillers. In almost all cases,
procedures using fillers are minimal, but yield a fantastic result.
Besides filling wrinkles, some fillers also make it possible to improve
the contours of the face. Bio-Alkemid is an example of a filler that can
give the skin more volume. Bio-Alkemid is highly suitable for areas that
require a lot of volume at once, such as cheeks, jawbones, chin and the
nose-to-lip pleats.
Non
Biodegradable
Filling substances (fillers) for treating wrinkles can be divided into
two types: biodegradable and non biodegradable.
Biodegradable fillers
will eventually be broken down by the body which means the result will
gradually disappear.
Non biodegradable
fillers are encapsulated by the tissue and have a more permanent result.
Bio-Alkemid belongs to this group of fillers. Bio-Alkemid consists of a
transparent injectable polyalkylimide gel. This sterile gel consists of
96% water and 4% polyalkylimide. After injection, the substance is
entirely enclosed by an extremely thin capsule which allows it to remain
permanently in the injected location. Because of this, Bio-Alkemid can
provide more volume than any other filling substance and thus offer a
wider range of possible procedures.

Treatment
A Bio-Alkemid procedure takes 15 to 30 minutes. Before the procedure,
the area to be treated is cleansed and disinfected. After this, the area
is anaesthetised by means of an anaesthetic cream or tiny injections.
Using tiny needles, the watery gel Bio-Alkemid is injected. The
substance can be dosed highly accurately. After treatment, the presence
of the substance can be felt for around 7 to 10 days, after which it
acquires the same consistency as the skin tissue. It will remain in the
skin permanently and will not be broken down. Neither will the substance
"travel" through the body. You need not wear a bandage after the
procedure; at most a plaster if the injections leave a little puncture
wound. You may already return to work the same day.
After
Treatment
You may return home straight after the procedure. In order to minimise
the risk of infection, you need to take an antibiotic tablet during one
to several days.
For several hours after
the procedure, the skin will be somewhat swollen. Sometimes, one can
develop a haematoma, which will remain visible from a few days to 2 or 3
weeks. This haematoma is easy to camouflage quite easily but can cause
some afterpain. The filler will remain perceptible for around 7 to 10
days after the procedure and will then acquire the same consistency as
the skin tissue. During this period, the treated area can be rather
sensitive. You may not apply firm pressure to the treated area since
this could cause the Bio-Alkemid to shift. During this period, you may
not undergo any other procedures, especially those by a dentist, dental
surgeon or dental hygienist.
Result
The result of a Bio-Alkemid procedure is directly perceptible. Volume
build-up using Bio-Alkemid often requires several injection sessions. A
slow build-up with intervals of four to six weeks is recommended. During
this time, the tissue is given the chance to encapsulate the filler,
after which the next session can take place. Likewise, this method
allows greater accuracy in the exact amount to be injected, which is
important for an optimal result. The duration of the result depends on
the various ageing processes of the skin. These continue as before,
meaning that new wrinkles and irregularities can develop in the treated
area. The rate at which this happens can vary from two to five years.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bio-Alkemid
Safe?
Bio-Alkemid is
a very safe substance. It is not toxic, does not cause abnormal
reactions, is biocompatible and physiologically and chemically stable.
The materials which make up Bio-Alkemid are not expected to cause a
reaction with the body on the long term. Once Bio-Alkemid is
encapsulated, it remains in the same location. In a manner of speaking,
the substance is one large molecule, meaning that parts of it cannot
come loose and "travel" through the body. Should it be necessary, e.g.
in the event of an infection, Bio-Alkemid can easily be removed.
What Are the
Alternatives For a Bio-Alkemid Procedure?
Other methods
of filling up contours are: lipotransfer (transferring one's own fat
e.g. from stomach or hips to the face) or a temporary or permanent
filling using other substances. It is also possible to increase volume
from under the skin by means of artificial implants on the chin or jaws.
Can Bio-Alkemid
Be Combined With Other Substances?
Bio-Alkemid is
very suitable for combining with other filling substances. In most
cases, the substance forms the basis for a treatment plan with
injectables. Bio-Alkemid restores to the skin the youthful volume it
once had. After a Bio-Alkemid procedure, smaller wrinkles and lines can
be treated further with the appropriate substances, e.g. Bioinblue,
hyalurin acid or botuline toxin.
Which
Complications May Arise?
Each injection
involves the risk of infection and allergy. Both risks are very remote
however. After the procedure, swelling and redness can show up. In
addition, a haematoma may develop in the treated area. In most cases,
this will disappear within several days but there is the possibility
that these blemishes persist longer. A specific risk with Bio-Alkemid is
shifting due to pressure during the first 5 days, which can result in
undesired irregularities of the skin.
What May I Do
After the Procedure?
After the
procedure, you may basically do everything: work, exercise, shower,
bathe etc. You should, however, make sure that the treated area is not
overexposed to warmth (sunlight, sun bed, sauna, water that is too hot),
This has a negative effect on possible swelling and redness. In
addition, you may not wear make-up during the first few hours. You need
not assume a particular sleeping position, but are advised to avoid too
much pressure on the treated area during the first five days. At most a
plaster if the injections leave a little puncture wound.
After the procedure,
some swelling and possibly redness can show up. In addition, a haematoma
